2002 Lincoln Continental A/C Accumulator Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to Service the A/C Accumulator on 2002 Lincoln Continental?
A: The first step to service the HVAC accumulator includes removing the upper sight shield from the radiator while recovering the refrigerant. Proceed by disassembling the screws maintaining the windshield washer fluid reservoir filler before performing the process to detach the RH fender support brace screws. First remove screws from the power steering fluid reservoir to make room for relocation and then detach the air suspension air compressor assembly combined with the drier unit. Services requiring the service of an HVAC accumulator begin by removing the evaporator to compressor suction line wrap-around clip screw followed by detaching the A/C cycling switch connector. Remove the suction accumulator/drier spring lock coupling from the evaporator to compressor suction line by disconnecting its ends and taking out the screw, nut and degas bottle. Two removal tasks include the A/C hose support bracket nut followed by the A/C accumulator tube support clip nut. First loosen the screw to raise the suction accumulator/drier from its position in the A/C accumulator bracket followed by disconnecting the evaporator to accumulator tube spring lock coupling from the suction accumulator/drier then uninstall the A/C cycling switch. The installation process requires reversing the removal steps and applying correct amounts of PAG Refrigerant Compressor Oil (R134a Systems) or equivalent to the refrigerant system. At the same time, use the same oil to lubricate O-ring seals.
