2002 Mercury Cougar Vapor Canister Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service the Vapor Canister on 2002 Mercury Cougar?
A: Vehicle service of the evaporative emission control canister begins with disconnecting the battery ground cable followed by vehicle elevation and support. After removing the retaining clips from the ventilation hose start by loosening the rear bolts securing the evaporative emission canister carrier. Start by removing the front bolt from the carrier before lowering the combination of canister and carrier assembly partially. Service of the evaporative emission canister requires detaching the evaporative emission canister vent solenoid connector along with separating the vapor tube connector from the canister. Disconnect the canister and carrier assembly from the vehicle while you then remove the vent solenoid by breaking its connection from the canister then separating it. To finish the process remove the canister by keeping the carrier away from it. To install the system perform the steps in reverse order of removal.
