2003 Ford F-150 Blend Door Actuator Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the temperature blend door actuator on 2003 Ford F-150?
A: Repairing the temperature blend door actuator starts with depowering the supplemental restraint system (SRS) during service and maintenance operations. The first step involves removing the floor duct panel through the process of unclipping the expander while removing pin-type retainers from their slots. Begin replacement of the right-hand instrument panel brace by unattaching the nut and bolt before taking out the brace itself. Move the left-hand instrument panel lower nut to the side while you disconnect the restraints control module (RCM) electrical connector. You can remove the RCM and bracket assembly after unscrewing the bracket retaining bolts. Before replacing the duct you need to execute a side cut while pushing carpet and duct backward at the rear of the vehicle. The floor duct removal starts when you unscrew screws located at both ends before removing the electronic blend door actuator connector and screws and finally releasing its actuator shaft by pulling it down. The installation method includes connecting the actuator shaft followed by screw installation and connector reconnection of the electronic blend door actuator. You should then attach the floor duct again using its two screws. Reposition the carpet and secure the floor duct with rear airflow duct by using zip ties for vehicles that have this configuration. System operation heavily depends on maintaining the right tightening torque of RCM retaining bolts. After connecting the RCM electrical connector the installer should reassemble the RCM and bracket assembly and install the left-hand instrument panel lower nut. Reinstall the right-hand instrument panel brace by using the brace and bolt in addition to the nut. The floor duct panel must be reinstalled by using the pin-type retainers along with the expander clip while also repowering the supplemental restraint system (SRS).
