2004 Ford Excursion A/C Expansion Valve Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service the A/C Expansion Valve on 2004 Ford Excursion?
A: Service of the thermostatic expansion valve starts by recovering all refrigerant from the system. You should start by removing the access panel on the right-hand rear quarter trim panel then taking out the jack. The A/C lines must be disconnected from the thermostatic expansion valve (TXV) while you separate the TXV from its position on the evaporator core. The installation process requires following the opposite order of removal while using lubricated new O-ring seals made from clean mineral oil. Any lubrication of the refrigerant system requires clean PAG refrigerant compressor oil at the proper amount similar to F7AZ-19D589-DA (Motorcraft YN-12-C) or an equivalent which follows Ford standard WSH-M1C231-B. The service completion includes evacuating and testing for leaks while charging the refrigerant system.
