2005 Ford Excursion Brake Disc Parts Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair the Brake Disc on 2005 Ford Excursion?
A: Service and repair of brake rotor/disc requires starting the procedure by removing the disc brake caliper anchor plate. The process starts with disc brake rotor removal which requires pulling off the hub grease cap along with the cotter pin then removing the nut retainer and spindle nut and outer wheel bearing retainer washer followed by outer wheel bearing after removing the disc brake hub and disc brake rotor. The recommended approach to perform rotor machining requires removing the wheel hub grease seal together with the inner wheel bearing for necessary resurfacing. The first step of installation starts with disc brake hub and rotor cleaning with brake parts cleaner while inspecting the front wheel bearings and their lubrication with long-life grease. Place the new wheel hub grease seal and then put in the inner wheel bearing followed by another new wheel hub grease seal. You must position the disc brake hub and rotor before adding the outer wheel bearing together with the wheel outer bearing retainer washer and finally fitting the spindle nut. To install this component correctly you need to turn both disc brake hub and rotor during the process of tightening the spindle nut before unfastening it by two turns. Screw the spindle nut tighter as you maintain shaft rotation of the disc brake hub and rotor. Next untighten it but retighten it while rotating the disc brake again. Complete the wheel assembly by adding the nut retainer followed by the cotter pin after which implement the hub grease cap and finish with the disc brake caliper anchor plate.
