- Q: How to Service and Repair the A/C Condenser Core on 2004 Ford Ranger?A: The service process for the condenser core starts with refrigerant extraction. The service and repair of the condenser core starts with air cleaner outlet tube and engine air cleaner removal in vehicles with 4.0L engines. Disconnection of the condenser-to-evaporator line from the condenser core warrants disposal of its O-ring seal. The process continues with compressor manifold and tube assembly separation from the condenser core before discarding the O-ring seal. First remove the screws before tilting the radiator back so you can extract both pin-type retainers and the top seal. The radiator needs to be dismounted from its mounting saddles to obtain enough space to extract the condenser core. Once through with the screws remove the condenser core. The reverse installation procedure includes fitting new O-ring seals with clean mineral oil or equivalent lubrication followed by correct PAG refrigerant compressor oil F7AZ-19D589-DA (Motorcraft YN-12-C) or equivalent feeding of the refrigerant system. The refrigerant system needs evacuation binding and pressure testing before chemical charging. Note that refrigerant compressor oil F73Z-19577-AA (Motorcraft YN-9-A) should only be used to lubricate R-134a refrigerant system O-ring seals and not added to the R-134a refrigerant system as an A/C compressor lubricant, while PAG oil must meet Ford specification WSH-M1C231-B. Additionally, if a condenser core leak is suspected, it must be leak-tested before removal, and a new suction accumulator is only required if there is physical evidence of system contamination from a failed A/C compressor or damage to the suction accumulator.
