2004 Ford Ranger Radiator Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service the radiator for 3.0L and 4.0L engines on 2004 Ford Ranger?
A: Prior to servicing the radiator on 3.0L and 4.0L engines staff must drain the cooling system. You must first remove the throttle body cover before detaching the upper radiator hose at both the radiator and the radiator overflow vent. Unscrew the two screws keeping the fan shroud in place before raising it out of its lower retaining clips and hanging it from the fan blade. The service begins with lower radiator hose extraction. A back up wrench should be used for disconnecting two transmission cooling tubes to avoid disturbing the transmission oil cooler fittings if your vehicle has these tubes as well as the transmission cooler tubes should be detached from below the radiator. The radiator installation requires you to detach the screws followed by easing the radiator backward before pulling it straight up. The installer should place the radiator in position within the engine bay before installing the mounting bolts while using a back up wrench to link transmission cooling tubes with radiator oil cooler fittings when these are present. The transmission cooler tubes should be connected to the lower part of the radiator while replacing constant tension clamps which secure upper and lower radiator hoses. The installation process includes fixing both the fan shroud and the radiator overflow or vent hose. To complete the cooling system you must both fill it and bleed it correctly while taking care to keep away from the engine cooling fan blade while revving the engine. Check for leaks in all hose connections and through the engine operation for a minimum of several minutes.
