2005 Ford Crown Victoria Shift Interlock Solenoid Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the Shift Interlock Solenoid for the Column Shifter on 2005 Ford Crown Victoria?
A: Safety measures begin with reducing the back up power supply until the air bag system remains inactive for the Brake Shift Interlock Actuator service. Remove the battery ground cable once followed by a one-minute waiting period then perform the removal of any auxiliary batteries and power supplies when present. Initiate by taking out the steering column Clock Spring part of the supplemental restraint system (SRS) and then remove the three bolts that anchor the coil mounting bracket to the column. You must separate the clip that locks the shift lock actuator before lowering the actuator down for easy removal of the park position switch from its cavity and the complete actuator unit. For the installation process follow the steps backwards from what was performed during removal.
