2006 Ford Crown Victoria Shift Interlock Solenoid Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the Floor Shifter Shift Interlock Solenoid on 2006 Ford Crown Victoria?
A: A proper service and repair of the Brake Shift Interlock Actuator requires disconnecting the back up power supply then discharging the battery ground cable for one minute before removing all auxiliary batteries or power supplies when available. Start the repair by eliminating the instrument panel finish panel followed by disconnecting its electrical connector. You need to first remove the console finish panel by lifting it up and then separate the transmission control switch harness by pressing down the shift handle bezel. First detach the two shift handle screws before you can remove the shift handle itself. Lift the shift indicator bezel to extract the bulb after which you can unclip and detach the interlock cable housing while releasing the shift interlock cable. Begin by unscrewing the lower steering column opening finish panel screw before putting aside the parking brake release handle and removing another screw to release the retaining clips through outward force. The technician should first remove the five nuts mounting the lower steering column opening finish panel reinforcement and the four screws securing the instrument panel reinforcement brace. The next step requires removing three screws holding the lower steering column shroud. A proper steering column drop occurs by releasing four nuts followed by securing the column to 15 Nm (11 ft. lbs.). The shift lock actuator solenoid electrical connector needs removal before elevating the actuator solenoid from its bracket to extract the interlock actuator and cable. The reinstitution of steps used in removal will finish the procedure.
