2005 Ford Escape Battery Cable Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the battery cables on 2005 Ford Escape?
A: Service or repair of battery cables requires starting with battery disconnection. Begin by taking off the air cleaner assembly followed by removing the generator B+ terminal nut and return it to 8 Nm (71 lb-in) torque when reinstalling. Set the generator B+ terminal cable to the side while detaching the generator harness retainer. You must first remove the starter solenoid terminal cover and the starter motor positive cable nut yet when returning them you need to torque these parts to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft). The starter solenoid wire needs removal before tightening with 5 Nm (44 lb-in) torque. Remove the battery ground cable bolt after positioning its terminals aside. The bolt requires tightening to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft) before reinstalling. To start the procedure disconnect the pin-type retainers from the left rear of the engine, the middle of the intake runners and the front of the engine while setting aside the battery ground cable. The engine installation requires removal of clip retainers from their position on the right front engine sector. When reinstalling the body ground terminal bolt from the left fenderwell maintain a torque of 9 Nm (80 lb-in). First expose the battery junction box (BJB) cover then take out its terminal nut until tightness reaches 8 Nm (71 lb-in). The process begins with positioning the BJB terminal to the side then unfastening the BJB electrical connector before using retainer tools to detach battery cables from the battery tray leading to battery cable removal. After following the removal steps install the battery by conducting the process in reverse order.
