2005 Ford F-150 Shock Absorber Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to service and repair the shock absorber and spring assembly on 2005 Ford F-150?
A: Cordless tools are used to begin shock absorber and spring assembly service with the vehicle placed in NEUTRAL position on a hoist. Remove the four upper shock absorber nuts after installation then discard them because their final torque value should be 48 Nm (35 ft. lbs.). After removing the outer tie-rod end nut you should tighten the new one to 150 Nm (111 ft. lbs.) when installing it. The shock absorber service requires removal of the outer tie-rod end from the wheel knuckle when completing the replacement process with new nuts and bolts tightened to 475 Nm (351 ft. lbs.). When extracting the shock absorber and spring assembly from the vehicle use slight tapping of the wheel knuckle or stabilizer bar instead of hammering the ball studs to separate the wheel knuckle or stabilizer bar joints from their mounts. Finally, new parts should be installed for upper nuts on shock absorbers together with lower ball joint-to-wheel knuckle nuts and outer tie-rod end nuts as well as shock absorber lower nuts and bolts. Screw tightening must wait until both the installation process and wheel weight becomes active.
