2005 Ford Freestar Cruise Control Servo Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the cruise control servo on 2005 Ford Freestar?
A: Before repairing or servicing the cruise control servo you need to take away the air cleaner assembly. First disconnect the speed control actuator cable from the throttle body and then proceed with removing the speed control actuator electrical connector. You should detach the speed control cable from the speed control actuator by first pushing down the tab lock and then rotating the speed control cable cap in a counter clockwise direction. The first step involves removing two bolts from the speed control actuator which leads to its complete removal. You must position the speed control actuator before securing it with two bolts which should be tightened at 10 Nm (89 lb-in). The correct placement of the speed control cable core wire on the speed control actuator pulley will stop the system from entering a high idle state. To install the speed control cable slug place the pulley slot into position with gentle movement of the retaining spring until it fully engages the slot. Put the rubber seal into place on the speed control cable cap before you align the cap tabs against the slots on the actuator housing then turn the cap clockwise until the locking tab finds its home. The hook up the speed control actuator electrical connector and fasten the speed control actuator cable to the throttle body while also replacing the air cleaner assembly.
