- Q: How to service the rear parking brake cable on 2005 Ford Freestar?A: The service of rear parking brake cables starts with placing the vehicle in neutral and hoisting it to the correct height. Detach the parking brake rear cable from the equalizer followed by removing its end from the brake caliper lever arm. The service starts by detaching the cable and conduit from the brake caliper bracket followed by removing the bolt from the spring pocket wireform bracket. This bolt needs to be tightened to 17 Nm (13 ft. lbs.) at reassembly. Before installation secure the trailing arm wireform bracket bolt at 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.). When installing the cable end you will notice spring tabs which lock the cable to the body then remove both the conduit and rear cable from the body and next remove the parking brake cable from the vehicle. In the final step of installation you should follow the reverse order of removal.
