- Q: How to Service and Repair a Third Row 50 Percent Seat Cushion on 2005 Ford Freestyle?A: Service of the third row rear seat cushion when set in 50 percent mode starts with the removal of each 50/50 seat and its associated backrest. Unfasten the backrest outer cover retaining latches and extract the release strap out of the recliner cover fabric. The removal process requires replacement of any damaged rivets. The pivot release handle requires removal of its two rivets so you can extract it from its pocket through the use of appropriate tooling that pulls up the head rivets above the insert without damaging it. Goalering the rivet with a screw-driving partial penetration creates the need to install new plastic rivets. The next step involves dismantling pivot release cable together with its casing and then extracting the pivot release handle. Two screws at the panel's bottom must be removed to enable releasing the retaining clips which allow for the panel's removal. Detaching the screw lets you expose the tab while removing the floor latch cover. The technician needs to free the cushion trim cover retainers from the 50 percent cushion frame before taking off the cushion trim cover along with cushion foam pad, giving access to both the LATCH and child safety seat tether anchor through the trim cover when reinstalling. First detach the pin-type retainer and inboard pivot cover while removing the two screws before handling the bushing. You must remove the two screws to detach the backrest latch inboard cover until you can pull the release strap through the trim cover. The installation requires you to disconnect the floor latch cable from backrest latch before removing two bolts to access the floor latch assembly which must be tightened to 23 Nm (17 lb-ft). The backrest latch required removal of two bolts that attached it to the cushion frame which should be fastened at 50 Nm (37 lb-ft) torque during replacement. To proceed with the pivot release cable removal it is necessary to separate this component along with its casing from both the cushion pivot release lever and bracket. Reinstall the cushion frame at 50 Nm (37 lb-ft) torque when inserting the four bolts securing it to the pivot tube assembly. The procedure calls for removing the bolt along with the safety belt buckle after tightening them to 37 Nm (27 lb-ft) torques during reinstall. Complete the assembly by executing the reverse procedures of disassembly.
