- Q: How to Service and Repair a Second Row, 60 Percent Seat Cushion on 2006 Ford Freestyle?A: A technician should start by removing the 60 percent rear seat when servicing the second-row rear seat cushion that is also 60 percent. The correct torque sequence must be followed for backrest frame installation to stop component damage. Start by taking off the rear seat backrest and following it with the removal of two screws to unfasten the riser RH inner cover before finally extracting three screws from the riser RH outer cover. A similar method must be used for the LH side; remove two screws from the riser LH inner cover and three screws from the riser LH outer cover. Start by removing the screw from the recliner handle followed by taking off two screws to detach the LH recliner outer cover. The installation should include guiding the release strap through the opening of the cover. The LH recliner inner cover needs removal after extracting the pin-type retainer and releasing the locator pins while taking care of the spring-loaded recliner mechanism. The three cable attachments should be marked for reinstallation after you disconnect them from the LH recliner base. Remove the two bolts which secure the LH recliner where torques need to reach 50 Nm (37 lb-ft) during installation. Install the three outboard cushion frame-to-riser nuts with proper torque to 23 Nm (17 lb-ft) during the reinstallation sequence. You will need to disconnect the cushion frame-to-riser bolt in front of the RH recliner and tighten both the cushion frame yoke-to-riser bolt and the cushion frame-to-riser bolt to 50 Nm (37 lb-ft). To split the cushion frame from the riser use the three RH recliner-to-riser bolts that need to be tightened to 50 Nm (37 lb-ft) torque when reinstalling. The procedure involves removing two bolts to extract the cable which enables removal of the LH latch foot and the RH latch foot requires installation torque of 50 Nm (37 lb-ft). The bolt should be removed from the safety belt buckle before tightening to its specification of 37 Nm (27 lb-ft) for final assembly. The first step in this procedure requires removing a screw along with an inner pivot cover, the pivot grommet, a screw and stationary foot cover, and a pin-type retainer along with its screw and RH recliner cover. Take note of the cable route before you detach the cushion frame yoke-to-RH recliner bolt to route out the cable and uninstall the RH recliner by tightening the bolt to 50 Nm (37 lb-ft). The assembly ends by first removing the cushion foam pad from its trim cover then following the opposite disassembly steps while strictly applying backrest frame torque sequence to prevent component breakdown.
