- Q: How to service the alternator on 2005 Lincoln LS?A: Service of the alternator starts with disconnecting the battery. The technician should turn the front end accessory drive (FEAD) belt tensioner counterclockwise then place the FEAD belt to the side. Start the repair by taking off the front valance panel together with the air deflector. Disconnect the A/C suction line clip from the radiator core support using a wrench before removing the left-hand A/C suction line lower bracket bolt. Position the bracket in the back and tighten it to 10 Nm (89 lb-in). Move on to taking out the generator upper mounting bolt before installation while tightening it to 21 Nm (15 lb-ft). When reinstalling the generator lower mounting nut and bolt follow the torque specification of 45 Nm (33 lb-ft). Detach the generator electrical connector before moving the generator B+ wire protective cover out of the way to unfasten the generator B+ wire nut and end of the cable. After installation tighten these components to 8 Nm (71 lb-in). First remove the generator unit followed by removing its four bracket bolts which need to be tightened to 48 Nm (35 lb-ft) torque setting when installing it back. To complete the repair the installer should proceed with putting in the new or fixed components through the reverse order of removal.
