2006 Ford Expedition Parking Brake Cable Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the LH rear parking brake cable on 2006 Ford Expedition?
A: Before performing repairs or servicing on the LH rear parking brake cable customers must completely release the parking brake control then use a front parking brake cable clip while simultaneously inserting an appropriate 4 mm (5/32 inch) pin into the parking brake lever lockout hole. This action relieves tension on the parking brake cable system. The LH rear quarter trim panel contains an air suspension switch that needs to be switched off before any hoisting, jacking or towing operations to prevent sudden air spring changes that might cause vehicle movement and lead to personal injury. Follow neutral gear using the vehicle to position it on the hoist. You will detach the LH rear cable from its connection to the equalizer before you release the conduit from its bracket by compressing its retaining mechanism. The park brake system needs correct installation of the park brake cable retainer spring when reinstalling the LH rear cable to function properly. First disconnect the LH rear cable from three components: the retaining clip and the park brake cable retainer spring as well as the ABS sensor wire from its retaining clip. The removal process requires the wireform bracket retaining screw and bracket where the screw needs to be tightened to 35 Nm (26 ft. lbs.) when reinstalling. For installation you must first compress the retainer to let out the conduit so you can unclip the cable end fitting from the brake caliper lever before following the reverse removal steps.
