2006 Ford F-150 Automatic Transmission Shift Levers Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair Automatic Transmission Shift Levers for the Floor Shift on 2006 Ford F-150?
A: Service and repair of floor shift automatic transmission shift levers starts with removing the left side kick panel of the floor console followed by lifting the console storage lid cover so you can uninstall the console finish panel. The transmission shift cable must be disconnected from its attachment points both at the transmission floor shifter arm and transmission shift cable bracket. First detach the electrical connector from the transmission floor shifter then free both the screws holding it before extracting the shifter from the vehicle. A suitable tool should be used to pry forward on the top of the shift lever button before removing the button and screw and sliding the shift lever knob upward to take out the knob and shroud. Separate the electrical connector of the transmission control (TC) switch and detach the PRNDL bulb from the shift lever housing. Unfasten the screws to divide the upper section from the lower section of the shift lever assembly. Install the shift lever assembly by mating its top and bottom halves and screw them together before placing the PRNDL bulb back in place and connecting the TC switch electrical connector. Secure the shift lever knob shroud but avoid excessive screw tightening during its position. First position the transmission floor shifter assembly correctly in its console position before installing screws that need to be tightened to 12 Nm (9 ft. lbs.). The transmission floor shift harness electrical connector needs connections while the transmission shift cable must be installed inside its cable bracket and connected to the transmission shift arm. To finish the upgrade replace both the console finish panel followed by reinstalling the left console kick panel.
