2006 Ford F-150 Brake Disc Parts Q&A
Q: How to service and repair the rear brake disc on 2006 Ford F-150?
A: Prior to servicing or repairing the rear brake rotor/disc start by taking out the wheel together with the tire then suspend the caliper assembly away from the brake hose to prevent damage. First disconnect the two brake caliper guide pin bolts before setting the caliper assembly aside using mechanic's wire for support. Before removing the brake disc, one must disconnect the parking brake adjustment plug to activate the contraction of shoe and lining when the disc is found bound to these components. The brake disc installation requires cleaning with brake parts cleaner but wheel studs and brake pads and brake disc need to remain free of lubricant exposure to prevent component failure. The flange of the hub requires a thin coat of lubricant before installing the brake disc onto the wheel hub. Fasten the brake caliper assembly into position after guiding the two pin bolts which need tightening at 30 Nm (22 lb-ft). To finish the process reinstall the wheel and tire then apply the brakes during multiple applications to check proper function.
