Ford F-150 Brake Disc Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to Service and Repair a Brake Disc on Ford F-150?
A: Brake rotor/disc repair and servicing starts with unfastening the front disc brake caliper anchor plate. Front 4x4 vehicle owners must remove the brake disk component from the hub. 4x2 vehicle brake disc removal starts with removing the hub grease cap before the cotter pin, nut retainer, spindle nut, front wheel outer bearing retainer washer then outer front Wheel Bearings until the brake disc and hub become accessible. The front wheel bearing removal process starts with discarding the Wheel Hub grease seal followed by disassembly of the front wheel bearing. Installation of brake disc wheel hubs on 4x4 vehicles requires Metal Brake Parts Cleaner F3AZ-19579-SA or its equivalent to clean the brake disc together with the hub. The front wheel bearing inspection along with brake disc and hub assessment must be performed on 4x2 vehicles using Metal Brake Parts Cleaner F3AZ-19579-SA or an equivalent product. The front wheel bearings require Premium Long-Life Grease XG-1-C or -K from ESA-M1C75-B Ford specification for lubrication before installing a new wheel hub grease seal. After cleaning the hub you should install the new wheel hub grease seal together with the inner front wheel bearing. Place the brake disc and hub in position to put on the outer front wheel bearing followed by a front wheel outer bearing retainer washer and spindle nut. To install the brake disc along with hub you should first tighten the spindle nut and then loosen it by two turns during brake disc rotation. Continue by repeating the tightening sequence while you turn the brake disc and ensure another loosen-up and retightening step. 4x2 vehicle maintenance requires workers to fit the nut retainer and cotter pin beside the hub grease cap before installing the front disc brake caliper anchor plate.
