2006 Ford F-250 Super Duty Vehicle Speed Sensor Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the Vehicle Speed Sensor for the Turbine and Intermediate Shafts on 2006 Ford F-250 Super Duty?
A: A suitable high-lift transmission jack should be used to service and repair the Turbine Shaft Speed (TSS) Sensor and Intermediate Shaft Speed Sensor when the vehicle rests in NEUTRAL position on a hoist. The two wire harness retainers should be taken out from the rear crossmember before setting the wire harness to the side. The first procedure requires removal of transmission insulator and retainer nuts before proceeding to LH crossmember bolts and nuts. Secure the indicated bolt by loosening it but do not touch the nut while you take out the RH crossmember bracket with its bolts and nuts. Unscrew both RH crossmember bolts and nuts until you can remove the LH crossmember bolt alongside its nut and crossmember. Access the TSS and intermediate shaft speed sensor while lowering the transmission by ensuring that the sensor area remains contamination-free. Disconnect the electrical connector for the TSS and intermediate shaft combination speed sensor after which you can remove the sensor by unscrewing its bolt. Apply lubrication on the O-ring after which you can install the new intermediate shaft and turbine shaft combination speed sensor using a bolt that needs 9 Nm (80 lb-in) torque setting. Place the transmission into its correct position before installing the crossmember to the transmission insulator and retainer while leaving it loose. Install the bracket first before loosely attaching its bolts then tighten the LH and RH crossmember bolts to 81 Nm (60 lb-ft). Use a torque of 81 Nm (60 lb-ft) to fasten the RH crossmember bolts and the transmission insulator and retainer nuts with 103 Nm (76 lb-ft). To finish the procedure install the wire harness while securing it with both rear retaining clips on the crossmember.
