2007 Ford F-250 Super Duty Vehicle Speed Sensor Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the Vehicle Speed Sensor on the Turbine and Intermediate Shafts on 2007 Ford F-250 Super Duty?
A: Begin the repair procedure of turbine shaft speed (TSS) sensor and intermediate shaft speed sensor by setting the vehicle in neutral position on a hoist next to installing a suitable high-lift transmission jack. The maintenance personnel should remove the 2 wire harness retainers from the rear crossmember while placing the wire harness to the side. One must first remove the transmission insulator and its retaining nuts before proceeding to remove LH crossmember bolts and nuts. Keep the specified bolt and nut in position without removing them. You should first take off the bracket bolts and nuts at the right-hand side crossmember before moving on to the removal of crossmember bolts and nuts at the right-hand side. Take out the LH crossmember bolt combined with its nut followed by the removal of the crossmember. Access the TSS sensor together with the intermediate shaft speed sensor by properly lowering the transmission and disconnect the electrical connectors. The area surrounding the speed sensor needs to be checked for foreign material before sensor removal can continue to avoid contamination. Disassemble the speed sensor unit for TSS and intermediate shaft by removing the bolt. Apply automatic transmission fluid to the O-ring before you install the TSS and intermediate shaft speed sensor with a proper torque of 9 Nm (80 inch lbs.). Reconnect the electrical connector while positioning the transmission up correctly and apply a loose nut between the transmission insulator and retainer to the crossmember. First install LH crossmember bolts while tightening them to 81 Nm (60 ft. lbs.), then secure RH crossmember bolts at the same torque value of 81 Nm (60 ft. lbs.). Secure the bracket bolts superficially but tighten both RH crossmember bolts and transmission insulator and retainer nuts to 81 Nm (60 ft. lbs. and 103 Nm (76 ft. lbs. respectively). Place the wire harness back and clip it down using the 2 retaining elements located at the rear side of the crossmember.
