2006 Ford Fusion Automatic Transmission Filter Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the Automatic Transmission Filter on 2006 Ford Fusion?
A: Service of the automatic transmission fluid filter begins with hoisting the vehicle into neutral position. The first step includes removing seven splash shield bolts before extracting the drain plug to let all transmission fluid drain out completely. Replace the drain plug to its position then torque it to 29 Nm (21 ft. lbs.). Start with removing the transaxle fluid pan by unscrewing the bolts followed by applying an appropriate tool to break the skin of sealing material. A metal surface cleaner should be used to thoroughly remove the silicone material from both the transaxle fluid pan and transaxle case surfaces. A 1-1/2 millimeter broad seal layer must be placed on the transaxle fluid pan sealing surface prior to assembling the transaxle fluid pan and tightening it to 7 Nm (62 inch lbs.). After installation of the splash shield proceed to fill the transmission with clean automatic fluid.
