2006 Ford Ranger Rod Bearing Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service the connecting rod bearings on 2006 Ford Ranger?
A: The first step for connecting rod bearing servicing requires removing both the oil pan and the 7 baffle nuts securing it. The connecting rod bearing caps must be treated with care because their parts are matched together and reversing the caps can cause engine deterioration. You should remove the connecting rod bearing cap and the 2 nuts before lifting the piston slightly to extract the connecting rod bearings. Engine oil which remains completely oil must be applied to the connecting rod bearings for installation since their precision requires this treatment for avoiding damage. The new connecting rod bearings need installation with bearing caps positioned in their original direction during removal. Use the provided 2 nuts to fasten the connecting rod bearing cap until the torque reaches 35 Nm (26 ft. lbs.). After completing each connecting rod bearing installation, install the baffle section of the oil pan with 7 nuts that require 32 Nm (24 ft. lbs.) torque and finally reinsert the oil pan.
