How to service the tailgate latch on 2006 Ford Ranger?

The service operation for the tailgate latch requires initiating by removing eight screws securing the tailgate access cover while tightening these screws to 5 Nm (44 lb-in) before reinstallation. The next step requires opening the rod retainer for the tailgate latch and disconnecting the rods from the remote control of the tailgate latch. The service requires disusing the tailgate support cables from the pickup bed strikers followed by removing the 2 tailgate latch bolts which need to be tightened to 30 Nm (22 lb-ft) during reinstallation. Move the tailgate latch to the side before removing both the actuating rod and latch component from its position. The tailgate latch release link needs to be pulled to the center before the retainer should be installed over the link thread. The installation finishes using the opposite procedure from removal steps.
