To proceed with tailgate latch service start by opening the tailgate latch actuating rod retainer then unplug the actuating rods from the remote control of the tailgate latch. The service procedure starts with removing 2 tailgate latch bolts at 30 Nm (22 lb-ft). The pickup bed strikers also need disconnecting from the tailgate support cables before completing the task. Remove the tailgate latch by positioning its latch aside then disconnecting the actuating rod followed by removing the latch itself. Eliminate tailgate latch release link slack by pulling it to the center of the tailgate before inserting the latch rod retainer onto the link thread.
