- Q: How to service the Engine Control Module on 2006 Ford Taurus?A: Service of the Engine Control Module requires first positioning the windshield wiper arms at the windshield's top before disconnecting the battery ground cable. Start by cutting free the RH cowl panel grille with its three retaining clips then pull off the clip on the RH cowl extension panel along with its three screws. The EVAP canister purge valve return tube needs disconnecting from the intake manifold before setting it to the side. The powertrain control module (PCM) electrical connection needs removal before taking out the gasket. The PCM can be released by moving the two retaining bolts. Installation requires tightening the bolts to 5 Nm (44 lb-in). Follow the removal steps in reverse order when reinstalling the components while torquing them to 7 Nm (62 lb-in).
