How to service the High Intensity Discharge (HID) headlight bulb on 2006 Lincoln LS?

Service of the High Intensity Discharge (HID) headlamp bulb requires caution toward the pressure-filled bulb since it can shatter when the glass envelope encounters scratches or during drops therefore maintain contact only through the bulb base to shield yourself from injury. Remove headlamp bulb only when ready to change it since long-term exposure will damage performance and create space for contaminants to get inside the headlamp unit. Start the procedure by removing the assembly and unscrewing the four screws retaining the low beam access cover. The HID bulb can be removed from the headlamp assembly when you release the spring retainer. The HID bulb with its harness must pass through the headlamp assembly before the ballast access cover and four screws are fully removed. The ballast needs three screws removed followed by disconnecting the electrical connector. The replacement process ends by performing the opposite actions used for bulb removal to install the new lighting element.
