Service of the High Intensity Discharge (HID) headlamp bulb starts with removing the headlamp assembly. You should start with the low beam access cover by removing its four screws before taking out the cover with its seal. Begin by unscrewing the four screws from the ballast access cover followed by its removal together with the seal. Start by removing the ballast by unscrewing its three screws while disconnecting the electrical connector and pulling out the ballast unit. Handle the headlamp bulb by its base while keeping away from the glass surface because the bulb contains pressurized gas that can break the glass when dropped or when scratches appear on the glass envelope. Maintenance professionals should delay removing the bulb until the moment before replacing it because early bulb removal creates operational problems and viewer contamination risks. The removal of steps enables installation of the headlamp components by returning to the initial sequence. To access the high beam bulb, first remove its four screws from the high beam access cover, detach the cover along with its seal, disconnect the electrical connector and treat bulb handling with great care to protect against injury. Follow the opposite directions from bulb removal to install the new replacement bulb.

The bulb contains gas under pressure and may shatter if the glass envelope is scratched or if the bulb is dropped; handle it only by its base and avoid touching the glass envelope.

To complete the installation, reverse the removal procedure.

Disconnect the electrical connector and handle the bulb carefully.
