- Q: How to Service and Repair Automatic Transmission Shift Levers for the Floor Shift on 2006 Lincoln Navigator?A: Service and repair of the floor shift automatic transmission shift levers should begin with the removal of the PRNDL trim plate followed by lifting and removal. A small screwdriver should be used to carefully move the button assembly out from the knob. A small flat-blade screwdriver should be used to lift the shift knob bezel before removal. Use a screwdriver to uninstall the two shift lever knob screws before extracting both the knob and its button which will slide together. Disembark the spring from the shift handle top and shift the window regulator control panel to a safe location. Begin by removing the console finish panel and proceeding to detach the left-side console access panel after its removal. Pull out the transmission shift cable connection from the transmission shift arm before pulling the retaining clip free from the floor shift mechanism reach through console access. Tighten the floor shift mechanism nuts to 8 Nm (71 inch lbs.) when installing them back. One should start by taking out the three console bolts which secure the upper shift bracket before application of 8 Nm (71 inch lbs.) torque during assembly. Disconnect the floor shift mechanism wire harness connector after setting aside the bolt which holds the upper shift bracket to the console access panel side.
