2006 Lincoln Navigator Shift Cable Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the Shift Cable and Bracket for the Column Shift on 2006 Lincoln Navigator?
A: Service and repair operations for the shift cable and bracket of the column shift should start with removing the instrument panel lower finish panel first. The transmission shift cable assembly connecting the steering column transmission shift lever arm to the steering column bracket should never be subjected to physical force to prevent any damage formation. The transmission shift cable needs to be detached from the steering column while you also detach it from the transmission shift lever arm which you will support. You can detach the transmission shift cable from the steering column bracket after gently lifting the two locking tabs. Now separate the cable retaining screw and guide both the rubber grommet and transmission shift cable through the floor panel housing. Position the vehicle in NEUTRAL and mount it on a hoist where the transmission shift cable connecting manual control lever and transmission shift cable bracket stays free from any contact force. The transmission shift cable needs to be detached from the manual control lever then a gentle pry force should be applied behind the transmission shift cable lock tab to free it from its bracket. You should remove the shift cable bracket from the transmission while removing its bolts and install it using torque of 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.) strength. The cable must be taken out from the transmission bell housing cable route assist clip and installed by following the reverse removal steps until the cable slides into the assist clip to stop exhaust tube contact. Complete the adjustment of the shift cable during the installation process.
