- Q: How to service the left-hand exhaust manifold on 2006 Mercury Monterey?A: Service of the left-hand exhaust manifold requires a vehicle at neutral position on a hoist during the procedure. Start the procedure by taking out both components of the dual converter Y-pipe then the oil level indicator tube bolt. You can disconnect the EGR tube by unscrewing the nut which allows unfastening the pipe from the exhaust manifold. The left-hand exhaust manifold requires removal by first unthreading the six exhaust manifold nuts and proceeding with removal of the left-hand exhaust manifold while discarding the old gasket. You should place a new left-hand exhaust manifold gasket before installing and tightening the manifold with six nuts to a torque of 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.) according to the technical specifications. Reinstall the EGR tube into the exhaust manifold while tightening it to 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.) and then secure the oil level indicator tube bolt with 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.). The last step is to reinstall the dual converter Y-pipe.
