2006 Mercury Mountaineer Heater Core Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the heater core and evaporator core housing on 2006 Mercury Mountaineer?
A: Before starting any work on the heater core or evaporator core housing it is vital to recover refrigerant then drain engine coolant. The first step requires removal of the instrument panel and subsequent detachment of the wiring harness bracket before setting the harness in position. First disconnect the heater tube bracket nut along with the A/C line bracket nut from the dash panel while tightening this second nut to 11 Nm (8 lb-ft) before reinstalling. Start by detaching two heater hose clamps at the heater core location before removing both evaporator inlet and outlet fittings while discarding the O-ring seals. The grommet must be detached then push the vacuum lines into the passenger compartment after disconnecting both vacuum connectors. The installation requires tightening all four nuts of the heater core and evaporator core housing to 9 Nm (80 lb-in). First disable the ground terminal bolt then take out the heater core together with the evaporator core housing. Reinstallation follows the same reverse order and includes replacement of new O-ring seals together with cleaning and oiling the refrigerant system with the proper PAG oil content. The process ends with filling the cooling system for the engine then conducting evacuations, leak examinations and system refrigerant pressure charging.
