2007 Ford Crown Victoria Shift Interlock Solenoid Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Service the Floor Shift Interlock Solenoid on 2007 Ford Crown Victoria?
A: Service of the Brake Shift Interlock Actuator for floor shift systems begins with depletion of back up power followed by disconnection of the battery ground cable for one minute along with removal of any additional batteries when such installation exists. The first step includes removing the instrument panel finish panel followed by electrical connector detachment. After lifting off the console finish panel users must push the shift handle bezel down so they can disconnect the transmission control switch harness. Open the shift handle by removing its two screws and carefully extract it from the shift position. To remove the bulb from the indicator bezel you have to first lift the bezel while disconnecting the interlock cable from its housing clip. Use the screw to remove the lower steering column opening finish panel and move the parking brake release handle to a side position followed by unmounting another screw from the lower steering column opening finish panel before pulling outward to free its retaining clips. Start by removing five screws mounted on the lower steering column opening finish panel reinforcement and four screws part of the instrument panel reinforcement brace. The following operation requires removal of three screws to detach the lower steering column shroud. Lowering the steering column requires unfastening four nuts before securing them at 15 Nm (11 lb-ft) resistance upon completion. The service requires disconnecting the electrical connector from the shift lock actuator solenoid followed by lifting the actuator solenoid from its mounting bracket to remove the interlock actuator and cable. The service completion requires performing every step in reverse order.
