2007 Ford E-250 Battery Cable Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the battery cables on 2007 Ford E-250?
A: Service and battery cable maintenance begins with taking out the battery from the system. After removing the nut, you should place the battery ground cable eyelet to the side before tightening the nut to 8 Nm (71 lb-in) during reinstallation. The next step after removing the generator cable and BJB terminal involves positioning both components aside while tightening them to 9 Nm (80 lb-in). Seek to disconnect the starter solenoid wire in-line connector together with the pair of harness locators which are mounted on the frame. The installer should remove the nut to prepare the battery cable lower bracket for safekeeping while applying 15 Nm torque (11 lb-ft) for 4.6L engines but 55 Nm (41 lb-ft) for both 5.4L and 6.8L engines when returning the bracket to its original position. The transmission cooler line clip must be separated from the lower bracket of the battery cable before starter solenoid terminal covers must be removed. The procedure requires removal of a nut during which time the starter solenoid positive cable should be set aside before retightening it to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft). Tighten the starter solenoid wire terminal to 5 Nm (44 lb-in) after positioning it aside when reattaching the nut for installation. Tighten the battery ground cable terminal to 23 Nm (17 lb-ft) when reinstalling while you set it aside by removing its nut. You should end the repair by removing the battery cable assembly and following the opposite steps for successful reinstallation.
