- Q: What precautions should be taken when servicing the driver air bag module on 2007 Ford Expedition?A: Your safety requires you to wear safety glasses before servicing the driver air bag module because accidental deployment risks injury while you should position the air bag module facing away from your body. A live air bag module should never rest face down and hand cleaning requires soap water since sodium hydroxide debris exists after deployment. Do not probe connectors of the air bag module nor activate it with memory saver devices because such actions will induce module deployment while causing personal injury. Remove the driver air bag module from its hooks after disconnecting its three wire clips to prevent damage to either components. Start with steering wheels aligned forward and column at middle position before turning the wheel to 9 o'clock direction. The system needs power depletion before removing the lower steering column opening cover through three screws and extracting the manual tilt lever screw. First dispose of the three lower shroud screws and release the attached clips before removing the upper shroud followed by the lower shroud and disconnecting the power tilt switch when present. A suitable tool lets you disconnect the three clips from the hooks of the steering wheel and remove the driver air bag module by removing the horn switch connector and both driver air bag module electrical connectors. Before installation position the steering wheel at 12 o'clock and then correctly match the Clock Spring connectors for the driver air bag module together with its horn switch connections. Secure the driver air bag module into position by making sure all three wire clips lock into place audibly. Inspect the trim cover for uniform gap space before putting back the lower shroud and reattaching the power tilt switch when required while screwing in upper and lower shrouds into place. The manual tilt system requires installation of its lever and screw that needs to be tightened to 6 Nm (53 lb-in while completing system power-up.
