2007 Ford Focus Intake Manifold Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the intake manifold on 2007 Ford Focus?
A: The first step for intake manifold service starts with hoisting the vehicle in neutral position. Service professionals should start by removing the cooling fan motor assembly and shroud along with the lower intake manifold bolt. The air cleaner outlet pipe needs removal and the clamps need unfastening with tube vent separation. First detach the pin-type retainer of the evaporative emissions hose to access the accelerator snow shield before removing its screw and pin-type retainer which enables snow shield removal. Detach the accelerator and speed control cables from the throttle body before removing three bolts which allows placement of the accelerator control cables and bracket aside. Replace the quick release ring on the power brake vacuum tube to release the throttle position sensor electrical connection with the idle air control valve electrical connection as well as the fuel vapor return hose while detaching the throttle position sensor electrical connection with the idle air control valve electrical connection and the fuel vapor return hose and power brake vacuum tube. You must disconnect the vacuum lines from the fuel rail pressure and temperature sensor before removing the wiring pin-type retainer and electrical connectors for both the IMRC actuator and MAP sensor. For 2.0L engines disconnect the swirl control valve electrical connector along with the secondary air injection (AIR) vacuum supply hose then remove the bolt and oil level indicator tube while marking the bolt positions for correct installation because different bolt sizes are used at different points. After removing the seven intake bolts of the manifold, 2.3L engines need additional steps including disconnecting swirl valve electrical connectors with pin retainers and removing two bolts and oil level indicator tube followed by marking bolt locations for seven intake bolt removal. To access the knock sensor (KS) connector user must first raise the intake manifold followed by disconnecting the PCV hose before removing the intake manifold with its associated EGR tube. Install new intake manifold gaskets only when necessary before you install the EGR tube and tighten it to 55 Nm (41 ft. lbs.). Install the intake manifold after attaching the PCV hose together with the KS electrical connector. When installing the 2.3L engine bolts must be placed in their pre-marked spots but a 6-inch 5/16-inch diameter hose will help fit the lower center bolt before installing the intake manifold and seven mounting bolts requiring 18 Nm (13 ft. lbs.) torque. The first task is to apply engine oil to the O-ring followed by installing the oil level indicator tube together with two bolts which receive 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.) torque. Then connect the swirl valve electrical connectors to its pin-type retainers. 2.0L engine owners must tighten the seven manifold mounting bolts to 18 Nm (13 ft. lbs.) before adding oil to the O-ring and installing the level indicator tube and securing its bolt to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.). Electrical connections should include the swirl control valve while crews with the AIR system must attach their vacuum supply hose. The installation process for all engines includes using a 18 Nm torque value to tighten the lower intake manifold bolt while connecting the MAP sensor electrical connector with the IMRC actuator electrical connector and securing the wiring harness pin-type retainer. Connect the fuel rail pressure and temperature sensor vacuum hose, the power brake booster vacuum tube by pushing it into the quick release fitting, the fuel vapor return hose, the IAC valve electrical connector and wiring harness pin-type retainer, the TP sensor electrical connector and wiring harness pin-type retainer, and the accelerator cable and speed control cable, installing the accelerator cable bracket and three bolts, tightening to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.), and connecting the accelerator and speed control cable to the throttle body. The installation process ends by first installing the accelerator control snow shield followed by retainer tightening to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.) and attaching the evaporative emissions hose pin-type retainer and final installation of the air cleaner outlet pipe using 4 Nm (35 inch lbs.) clamps with the cooling fan motor and shroud assembly for reinstallation.
