- Q: How to service the second-row 40 percent seat cushion on 2007 Ford Freestyle?A: The service of the 40% rear seat cushion starts with removing both the 40% rear seat and rear seat backrest. The inboard latch foot must be kept in the latched position to enable a smooth pivot action of the backrest up to its upright position. Detach the cushion trim cover J-clip which resides under the seat before taking the back-seat J-clip attached to the cushion frame from underneath the seat. Detaching operations start with removing cushion trim cover retainers from between riser/seat track and cushion frame before removing both cushion foam pad and cushion trim cover. Twist the riser/seat track outboard inner cover from the screws before unfastening three screws that hold the outboard outer cover. The replacement process requires detachment of the manual recliner handle screw followed by two screws for removing the recliner outer cover. Keep the release strap inside the cover opening while replacing all parts. Take out the pin-type retainer and open the locator tabs before you uninstall the recliner inner cover while watching for the spring-powered recliner system. The recliner needs its cables removed after recording their paths for reinstatement before unbolt the recliner while applying a torque of 50 Nm (37 lb-ft) for the bolt tightening. First remove the six cushion frame-to-riser/seat track nuts then uninstall the riser/seat track until ready to reinstall it with 23 Nm (17 lb-ft) torque. The bolt securing the safety belt buckle should be removed but must reach a torque of 37 Nm (27 lb-ft) while reinstalling. First remove the screw and inboard pivot cover then proceed to uninstall the pivot grommet followed by the two screws from the riser inboard inner cover and the three screws from the riser inboard outer cover. To finish the assembly reverse the procedures used for disassembly while re-attaching the cushion trim cover from the cushion foam pad.
