2007 Ford Mustang Catalytic Converter Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to service the catalytic converter on a 4.0L engine on 2007 Ford Mustang?
A: You should start the 4.0L catalytic converter service by first placing the car into NEUTRAL mode before hoisting it and then standing up the muffler with a jackstand. You should disconnect the intermediate pipe from the catalytic converter assembly by removing the exhaust coupler then disposing it. All heated oxygen sensors (HO2S) must be disconnected along with catalyst monitor sensors from their wiring connectors before any repair work starts to prevent damage. First remove right-hand HO2S electroical connectors then disconnect left-hand HO2S electrical connectors followed by right-hand and left-hand catalyst monitor sensor electrical connectors. Tighten all hand-bolted catalytic converter nuts before taking off and discarding the two RH catalytic converter-to-exhaust manifold nuts. Install the new nuts by torquing them to 45 Nm (33 ft. lbs.) at 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.) intervals with the first application on the upper nut. Perform the same procedure on the two LH catalytic converter-to-exhaust manifold nuts. Avoid damaging the manifold outlet or converter inlet flares and their feeding studs when you uninstall the catalytic converter assembly. The mating surfaces of the manifold outlet flare and catalytic converter inlet flare and muffler inlet pipe need cleaning with Scotch Brite pad while preventing foreign materials from accessing the catalytic converters. To secure the positioning of the catalytic converter a jackstand should be used behind the outlet. The manifold studs should align with the pipe flange while hanger rods must be centered in the isolators. After finishing the installation follow the removal steps while using new converter-to-manifold nuts along with an exhaust coupler.
