2007 Ford Ranger Automatic Transmission Filter Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the In-Line Automatic Transmission Filter on 2007 Ford Ranger?
A: The first requirement for servicing and repairing the in-line transmission fluid filter requires the vehicle to be in the NEUTRAL gear while using a hoist for installation. The existence of an overhauled transmission with an in-line fluid filter necessitates new filter installation. Install a new in-line fluid filter kit on vehicles without such equipment. Non-internal repairs require that no filter or filter kit should be installed. A new or authorized remanufactured transmission requires the use of the supplied transmission fluid filter provided by the manufacturer. Remove first the retainer clips from cooler lines then separate the lower transmission cooler tube fitting. Cut out the return line section while cleaning all steel tubing ends with the proper deburring techniques. Position two ferrule connectors on each tubing end by lightly tightening the nuts prior to making an additional 1-1/2 turns to properly affix the ferrules inside the connectors. The filter should be placed within the fluid cooler return line with its red arrow facing toward the transmission while pointing away from the transmission fluid cooler. The entry point to the filter must be free of rubber hose and steel tubing when their angles extend beyond 60 degrees. The filter installation requires appropriate hose lengths and requires the clamps to be tightened securely. Reattach the lower transmission cooler tube fitting while tightening it to 28 Nm (21 ft. lbs.). Afterward install the retainer clips onto the cooler lines. Clean one part of the transmission fluid pan before you put the sticker in place along with filling the transmission with new automatic fluid. Check all system functions and search for leaks around the filter. The procedure for installing the filter in OTA cooler vehicles remains identical from start to finish with proper installment of the filter in the fluid cooler return line included.
