- Q: How to service and repair the upper control arm on 2007 Ford Ranger?A: Start servicing and repairing the upper control arm while keeping the vehicle in NEUTRAL mode on a hoist. Set a suitable jack to stabilize the lower arm. A secure attachment to the wheel spindle/knuckle is essential before removing the pinch bolt and nut as this measure stops possible damage to both components. Before assembly attach the new ball joint with 63 Nm (46 ft. lbs.) torque while the ball joint should be separated from the wheel spindle/knuckle by removing and discarding the upper ball joint nut and pinch bolt. After removing the two upper arm nuts and flag bolts with their set shims discard them while tightening the new upper arm nuts to 133 Nm (98 ft. lbs.) at curb height. At the time of reinstalling the upper arm bolts need to stay in position while maintaining the desired torque and the original shim placement needs to be restored to its correct position. Installation ends with reversing the removal order while assessing the front end alignment before any required adjustments.
