- Q: How to Remove and Replace the Front Coil Springs and Shock Absorber Assembly on 2007 Mercury Grand Marquis?A: Before uninstalling or installing front coil spring and shock absorber assemblies begin by shutting off air suspension system electrical power to stop air spring deflation and inflation that could make the vehicle move. Before work starts depower any fire suppression system that the vehicle has. Position the vehicle in neutral gear then set it on a hoist for working. It is important to maintain the center nut on its spot to secure the upper spring mount because releasing tension from the spring could result in personal harm. Locate the three shock absorber mounting bracket nuts and remove them before installation of new parts then tighten them to 30 Nm (22 lb-ft). It is important to remove the two bolts from the caliper and anchor plate assembly and support it with mechanic's wire before tightens the nuts to 160 Nm (118 lb-ft) to prevent brake hose damage. First remove the brake disc then secure the stud with the hex holding feature to prevent spinning during the removal of the upper stabilizer bar link nut before discarding it and tightening the new nut to 63 Nm (46 lb-ft). Apply the same procedure for the lower stabilizer bar link nut while discarding it and applying a torque of 55 Nm (41 lb-ft). The next step requires detachment of the wheel speed sensor wiring harness retainer from the wheel knuckle while the hex holding feature removes and discards the upper ball joint nut before torquing the new one to 150 Nm (111 lb-ft). An installation tool should be used to change and torque the shock absorber assembly lower nut and flag bolt to 235 Nm (173 lb-ft) during assembly.
