Service the degas bottle only when the engine and cooling system cool down because the system maintains pressure that causes powerful steam and hot liquid discharge. Turn the degas bottle pressure relief cap counterclockwise one quarter turn slowly to release pressure before uninstalling it. Hose clamp pliers should be used to secure the degas bottle-to-radiator hose before using a suitable suction device to siphon coolant from the degas bottle. The repair requires disconnecting the degas bottle-to-radiator hose together with the 2.3L degas bottle-to-coolant bypass housing hose connection. Tighten both degas bottle nuts to 6 Nm (53 inch lbs.) when you install them. The degas bottle should rise up for disconnecting its hose from the radiator while the bottle remains outside of the vehicle. Reverse the removal steps by filling the degas bottle with an appropriate mixture of coolant according to manufacturer recommendations.
