2008 Ford Crown Victoria Air Bag Control Module Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the Air Bag Control Module on 2008 Ford Crown Victoria?
A: An inspection of Restraints Control Module (RCM) and impact sensor mounting areas for deformations should be performed on vehicles that have been in a crash before any restoration of original configurations. A new RCM together with sensors must be installed under all circumstances to avert severe injury and death. The use of memory saver devices should be avoided because they increase accidental deployment risk while proper system operation depends on using the correct specifications to tighten the RCM and impact sensor fasteners. Any static discharge can damage the sensitive electronic components therefore maintain caution when touching them. Along with the ignition activation the RCM fuse removal will activate the air bag warning indicator but this condition is normal without indicating any fault. The correct RCM must be installed to prevent DTC malfunctions while inspection of the SRS system for all clearances must happen prior to vehicle customer return. First enable the parking brake followed by shifting transmission into position 1 for shifters located on the floor before powering down the SRS system. Start by removing the pin-type retainer and carpet patch while those vehicles with a column shifter need bracket screws access through the instrument panel opening for ashtray removal. The first step removes the storage compartment before disconnecting the power point electrical connector. First eliminate the floor console finish panel before unfastening two RCM bolts located on the right-hand side and detaching both large and small RCM electrical connectors. When putting the RCM into place install its right-hand side bolts before torquing them to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft). The installation process starts by connecting the small RCM electrical connector followed by left-hand side bolt installation then verifying that the connector position assurance lever reaches its full back position before joining the large electrical connector. Apply a correct alignment to the large connector before pushing it gently until it makes an audible click sound then lock it with the assurance lever. Reinstallation of the ashtray bracket and screws should be completed during column shifter models whereas floor shifter models require reconnection of storage compartment power point followed by installation of storage compartment and floor console finish panel. Next integrate PARK as the transmission setting while releasing the parking brake then installing the carpet patch and its pin-type retainer before activating the SRS.
