2008 Ford E-250 Muffler Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the muffler and tailpipe assembly on 2008 Ford E-250?
A: First start by putting the vehicle in neutral position and hoisting it on a rack while supporting the assembly with safety stands. First release all hanger isolators and follow by loosening the muffler Torca(R) clamp then tighten it to 55 Nm (41 lb-ft) strength during reinstallation. Vehicle owners must first loose the extension clamp using Torca(R) mechanism followed by removal of the extension before reinstallation where they need to tighten the clamp to 55 Nm (41 lb-ft). First loosen and then remove the RH rear upper shock absorber nut from the assembly before torqueing it to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft) during reinstallation then proceed to remove the RH rear lower shock absorber nut and shock absorber which requires tightening to 80 Nm (59 lb-ft) when reinstalling both components. Motor vans and wagons need the muffler and tailpipe assembly disconnected from the exhaust intermediate pipe while stripped chassis require removing it from the catalytic converter extension pipe. The complete muffler should be taken out from the vehicle along with the tailpipe assembly before reinstallation while using the same orientation for any new Torca(R) clamp as the original setup.
