2008 Ford E-250 Exhaust Pipe Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the Exhaust Pipe on the Van/Wagon on 2008 Ford E-250?
A: Service or repair operations on the Van/Wagon exhaust crossover pipe should begin by placing the vehicle in NEUTRAL position on a hoist. Start the procedure by removing the engine cover and disconnecting both heated oxygen sensors (HO2S) and their electrical connectors and the catalyst monitor sensor. A safety stand should support the muffler with its tailpipe assembly and exhaust intermediate pipe before releasing the hanger isolators holding the front muffler and tailpipe. The Torca(R) clamp connecting the exhaust intermediate pipe to the exhaust Y-pipe needs to be released before reinstallation when torqued to 55 Nm (41 lb-ft). Detach the exhaust intermediate pipe together with the muffler and tailpipe from the exhaust Y-pipe for removal. To proceed with the disassembly sequence first unlatch the 2 LH and 1 RH heat shield-to-crossmember bolts before retightening these fasteners to 10 Nm (89 lb-in). During rebuild time the crossmember-to-rear transmission mount should receive 95 Nm (70 lb-ft) torque. Use a safety stand to maintain transmission rear support before taking out the RH and LH transmission crossmember-to-frame hardware which needs to be tightened to 81 Nm (60 lb-ft) at reinstall time. Discard the 4 exhaust Y-pipe-to-exhaust manifold nuts before pulling out the exhaust Y-pipe from the vehicle. Install the new upper and lower exhaust Y-pipe-to-exhaust manifold nuts by setting each one at 40 Nm (30 lb-ft). The reinstallation process requires executing the opposite steps using the same Torca(R) clamp orientation when using a new clamp.
