2008 Ford Edge Brake Pads Parts Q&A
Q: How to service and repair front brake pads on 2008 Ford Edge?
A: The servicing process for front brake pads begins by using new manufacturer-approved brake fluid that maintains cleanliness during installation since drained fluid must never refill the system to stop system contamination. The installation of new brake shoes or pads must take place at both ends of an axle for proper braking regulation. The correct amount of brake fluid should fill the reservoir in the brake master cylinder to 1/2 of its capacity. Start by removing the wheel while keeping the tire on and ease out the brake caliper by unscrewing the guide pin bolts through which the pistons should never be retracted with a caliper sight hole so damage won't occur. Use mechanical wire to suspend the caliper because it could cause damage to the brake hose. Examine the removal items which include brake pads and their corresponding brake-pad shims and stainless steel shims for signs of wear or contamination. A suitable device should be used to press brake caliper pistons into the caliper space while protecting both the boots and pistons when replacing brake pads. Before sliding the brake pads you must apply a thin layer of supplied grease to both the brake pad shims and the shim contact surface and then attach stainless steel shims. The three guide pin bolts have different dimensions where the longer one belongs to the upper guide pin bolt. Place the brake caliper into position before attaching the two guide pin bolts with 88 Nm (65 lb-ft) torque. Replace the wheel along with its tire then add specified clean brake fluid to the master cylinder reservoir before testing brake function through several applications.
