How to service the rear ABS sensor on 2008 Ford Escape?

Start the service process of the rear ABS sensor by placing the vehicle on a hoist with NEUTRAL gear position. Handle the grommet removal with caution because a damaged grommet requires replacing the sensor regardless of its operational condition. Swivel the grommet until it exposes access to two tabs on right angles relative to the sensor wire which can be released with a small screwdriver. You should disconnect the rear ABS sensor electrical connector before pulling out the harness from its retaining point. Secure the three bolts holding the rear ABS sensor harness until they reach 9 Nm (80 lb-inch). Reinstall each bolt with this torque during the installation process. The sensor area must be cleaned thoroughly before you remove the rear ABS sensor bolt from the wheel knuckle. Also, reposition it with 9 Nm (80 lb-inch) torque when performing reinstallation. Finish the repair work by cleaning the mounting surface thoroughly before going through the opposite steps to install it.
