2008 Ford Expedition Coolant Reservoir Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service the coolant reservoir safely and effectively on 2008 Ford Expedition?
A: Service of the coolant reservoir starts by determining that the engine temperature is cool enough since opening the cooling system results in forced release of steam and hot liquid under pressure which threatens serious injury. Start your service of the coolant reservoir by carefully turning the pressure relief cap counterclockwise one half revolution then removing it from the system. A suitable suction device operated by hose clamp pliers allows you to empty coolant from the degas container by clamping the return hose. Separate the air cleaner element before unfastening the inlet hose of the degas bottle from the radiator. The removal of the clip allows for disconnecting the coolant return hose quick connect coupling from the degas bottle. During reinstallation tighten the two bolts which secure the degas bottle/lower air cleaner housing assembly to 15 Nm (11 lb-ft). Withdraw the suction device and perform a reverse installation of steps by filling the degas bottle to the specified coolant mixture and correct fill level.
