2008 Ford F-250 Super Duty Oil Cooler Parts Q&A

  • Q: How should the oil cooler be serviced on 2008 Ford F-250 Super Duty?
A: You should detach your vehicle body before performing a service on the oil cooler because it provides better access to the location. The first step includes removal of both the intake manifold along with the turbocharger pedestal. Secondary action requires unfastening the oil filter capsule while removing its component for disposal of the element along with its O-ring seal. The operation requires removal of four Torx® bolts and the oil filter housing yet you must discard the oil filter housing as well as its O-ring seal. Leaks will develop from screw detachment and loss of the oil filter return tube assembly so it requires dismissal of the gasket. The oil cooler cover screws must be kept for new installation because they have self-tapping features. Detach the ten screws and the oil filter base and discard both press-in-place gaskets before cleaning the sealing surfaces. A new oil cooler cover assembly featuring the oil cooler is always necessary for catastrophic engine failures because foreign materials cannot be eliminated from the oil cooler. Discard the press-in-place gaskets from all surfaces while cleaning the eight bolts which need to be discarded before installation of the oil cooler assembly. The installation of the oil cooler cover assembly requires new press-in-place gaskets with eight bolts attachment followed by torque setting to 31 Nm (23 lb-ft). When fitting the new oil cooler cover with its screws, install press-in-place gaskets followed by the oil filter base along with ten screws which need tightening to 10 Nm (89 lb-inch) for new covers and 7 Nm (62 lb-inch) for previously used covers. Use 7 Nm (62 lb-inch) on new tubes and 5 Nm (44 lb-inch) on used tubes to tighten when you put the new gasket along with the oil filter return tube assembly and screw while applying clean engine oil on the O-ring seal. Clean engine oil should be applied to a new O-ring seal on the oil filter housing before using Torx® bolts for installation by tightening them to 22 Nm (16 lb-ft). After adding new components such as the oil filter cap O-ring seal and oil filter, the cap should be secured with 25 Nm torque (18 lb-ft) before installing the turbocharger pedestal and intake manifold.
