Service of the oil cooler requires starting with the removal of the intake manifold along with the turbocharger pedestal when the vehicle body remains on. The retention of the self-tapping oil cooler cover screws is essential because they serve to cut threads into the new cover but lack of these screws could generate engine damage. The procedure requires removal of ten screws as well as the oil filter base while discarding press-in-place gaskets before cleaning and inspecting sealing surfaces. Replacing the entire oil cooler assembly should always be done when catastrophic engine failure occurs because its inner components cannot be cleaned from foreign materials that could harm the engine. The oil cooler assembly requires removal of its 8 bolts followed by discarding press-in-place gaskets while cleaning all sealing surfaces. The installation requires new press-in-place gaskets to attach the oil cooler cover assembly through 8 bolts which should be tightened to 31 Nm (23 lb-ft). Install new press-in-place gaskets and also install the oil filter base before screwing down 10 bolts to 10 Nm (89 lb-inch) on new cover parts while using 7 Nm (62 lb-inch) torque settings for the previously used cover. The intervention includes reinstalling both the turbocharger pedestal along with the intake manifold.
